Santorini Townscapes

A group of paintings about the Greek Island of Santorini. The island has a magical quality that attracted me to it as a subject. I hoped to capture the stillness, light and mystery of the place in a kind of Edward Hopper stylie.
I avoided the classic tourist spots and went inland to look for empty back streets and lanes. Later I realised that the reason the streets were empty was because it was usually the hottest part of the day that I was there. Very much a case of 'only mad dogs and Scotsmen go out in the mid-day sun' !
